Phil's photography has a rich quality that takes me back to my childhood living on the Eastern coast of the US. Not only does he take spectacular land/city scapes, but he also has an excellent portraiture portfolio as
well. He is a great inspiration to me and I am sure many others. Phil's photographs are rich with images that are breath-taking, interesting and often tell a story. His scenic photos are wonderful and he has a way of capturing the light and with such clarity; that if you view large makes you feel as if you could be there. However, the thing I love about his photo stream are his portraits - Phil's passion is for taking photos of 'perfect strangers' - people he meets on the street - he has the ability to capture the essence of that person and can portray dignity, shyness, joy and many other emotions all in the blink of his shutter. Nothing is too much trouble for him, he even helped explain apertures to me in simple language, (thanks Phil!) above all he is a thoroughly nice bloke and someone I am so pleased to have as my friend
Just a brief message to say a big thank you for the excellent photography class. The slides were very well complimented with your very easy to understand commentary, punctuated only by you expanding on certain points which you did with such ease. I can't praise highly enough your whole presentation which was very slick and professional but at the same time you conveyed a genuine empathy whilst dealing with questions or clarification. This was a very technical, and as you pointed out, an often ignored or misunderstood element of photography and I think you have delivered a course which will ultimately prove of great significance to the participants. You are the first photographer I have met who has a desire to remove the snobbery/myths surrounding the subject. Once again thanks very much.
